That was one of the most inspiring things I have seen in my whole life

My time as a student of a University of Applied Sciences, was controversial, to say the least. I quit after four years of studies and only a quarter of the credits to go. And I think I made an extremely wise choice at that.

But, I also think I made an incredible choice at starting those studies. I still remember vividly all the reasons I had when I decided to go for the studies of extended reality, called XR-Design. I still believe in the potential of VR (Virtual Reality).

Back then in 2018 when I started, I had just had my first encounter with Virtual Reality, in the form of a birthday experience I had given a friend. And my head was swimming with that experience. It had blown my mind and touched something in my very soul. If you haven’t tried VR yet, I highly recommend it. It just might change your view of the world.

I had been so excited actually that I ended up dragging my mother to experience the same. And she became excited. It was amazing. There was something there that could touch people, reach them. I still think that is awesome, and the highest of achievements.

And I felt blessed for the opportunity to study that technology. Even as I was a Philology student, switching study plans from what was essentially Spanish literature to a very technical design field. I was terrified.

Now. I wouldn’t recommend my studies to anyone. As said, I decided to quit.

Yet, I gained some amazing learning I probably wouldn’t have achieved if I hadn't gone to Metropolia (University of Applied Sciences). I attribute most of that to my studymates who are all amazing human beings. And extremely skilled individuals. I can only hope they know how much they meant to me. And not just as my teachers.

With them I managed to upgrade my understanding of computers and design softwares to a completely new level, I could have never achieved on my own. All those late nights in our study rooms, agonizing over impossible tasks, are sugar coated with their presence and help. I remember every lesson they gave. How more than one of them took hold of the opportunity to give out full lectures for the rest of the group, with no prompting and no rewards promised.

That was one of the most inspiring things I have seen in my whole life. And something I think I will still remember on my deathbed. That courage, loyalty to fellow human beings and simple inspirational power, is what I shall take with me from that place and time. It’s my silver lining. And worth everything.
